Local MP Greg Hands has welcomed news that crime is falling. Crime recorded by the Metropolitan Police in London has fallen by 14 per cent since 2010.

The latest figures from the independent Crime Survey of England and Wales also show that crime across the country crime has fallen by more than a fifth under this Government.

This means that in England and Wales in the last year, compared with the year before this Government came to power, there were:

·    More than 2.3 million fewer crimes.
·    160,000 fewer homes burgled.
·    290,000 fewer vehicle crimes.
·    413,000 fewer violent crimes.
·    962,000 fewer incidents of criminal damages.

The Conservative led Government has been following an action plan to tackle crime and make Britain safer. This has been achieved by allowing the police to fight crime by cutting red tape and scrapping unnecessary targets; giving criminals tougher sentences; and giving the police the powers they need to tackle criminals, using the latest tools and techniques.

Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands said: “The Government is following an action plan to tackle crime and make London a safer place to live. We have cut red tape so the police can focus on what matters - fighting crime so we have safer communities.

“Our changes save an estimated 4.5 million hours of police time, equivalent to 2,100 police officer posts. We have given police just one target: to cut crime.  The police are now free to use their discretion and professional judgement to best protect our communities.

“Crime has fallen by 14 per cent in London thanks to our plan and the hard work of police officers. This means families in Chelsea and Fulham are safer and more secure, and can enjoy a better, brighter future.”
