Members of the borough’s French community enjoyed a special cheese and wine reception at Hammersmith Town Hall.

Around 40 French people joined the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Belinda Donovan at the launch of the borough’s French Club last Thursday.

Amongst the guests, were Antoine De Navacelle,  the great grand-nephew of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympic Games.

All visitors brought their own cheese and wine and music was also provided.

Cllr Donovan said: “This was a wonderful event and it was a delight to mingle with so many of the borough’s French residents. I would like to wish the French Club all the best over the coming months and years and hope to keep closely involved with the club.”

Greg Hands M.P. added: "As a French-speaker myself, I am pleased to see the Council, like me, has recognised that we have a growing French community here. No doubt, it will grow further, with François Hollande's new 75% tax rate and other punitive and counter-productive policies. Like Boris, I say 'Vous etes bienvenus ici à Londres, surtout à Chelsea ou à Fulham'.”
