On Monday 20 September, the MP for Chelsea and Fulham celebrated the return of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, visiting the Climate Change Garden and joining the receiving line to greet Members of the Royal Family.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show returned to Chelsea this year, having previously been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has historic ties to Chelsea, having been held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea since 1913.
The MP for Chelsea and Fulham, Greg Hands, was pleased to welcome the return of the world famous show, with the RHS and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea deciding to only postpose the show this year and not to cancel it.
During the visit, Greg Hands MP visited the Climate Change Garden, particularly of interest following his appointment to Energy and Climate Change Minister, and was joined by RHS Director General, Sue Biggs, and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon George Eustice MP.
Horticulture can play a big role in fighting climate change and the MP was impressed by sector’s commitment to sustainability.
Greg Hands MP also joined the receiving line to greet Members of the Royal Family visiting the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year. The MP joined the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and others to welcome THR The Earl and Countess of Wessex, HRH The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, TRH The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, TRH Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and HRH Princess Alexandra. This year the alternative floral art show theme is ‘Extraordinary Voyages’ and runs from 20 to 25 September.
Commenting on the visit, Greg Hands MP said:
“It’s great to see the RHS Chelsea Flower Show return to the constituency, having been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It was a pleasure to attend the first day of the event and meet with the Director General, Sue Biggs, and be joined by Ministers and the Secretary of State from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to visit the Climate Change Garden and join the line up to greet Members of the Royal Family.
I hope many of my constituents across Chelsea and Fulham have a chance to enjoy the wonderful floral displays across Chelsea this week.”
