Greg Hands MP reminds Chelsea & Fulham residents that he continues to oppose the expansion of Heathrow Airport.
Recent reports have revealed that Heathrow Airport’s third runway proposal is very much alive. Heathrow has denied that its third runway proposals have been shelved and has explained that an updated strategy is being drawn up over the next few months, which will include information on how to handle capacity until they get to the third runway.
Heathrow CEO has been quoted recently saying: “We need to not only focus on the third runway of course – which needs to be updated so we have the right facts for that decision, we’re going to make that a reality in the right way – but also what kind of capacity can we create within the current boundaries of Heathrow to make sure that we can serve our passengers as best as possible.”
Greg knows this will be concerning for Chelsea & Fulham residents and has been clear ever since he has been our MP - Greg is against the expansion of Heathrow Airport. He believes that proposals for the expansion of Heathrow Airport, such as a third runway, will have a negative impact on constituents in Chelsea and Fulham.
As residents will remember from Greg’s resignation from the Government in 2018, to vote against the third runway at Heathrow, Greg always puts his constituents and our local area first.
As the Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, Greg has campaigned against the expansion of Heathrow and night flights for more than a decade.
Greg has worked tirelessly for the local community, including launching petitions such as his latest against night flights (do not forget to sign here!), chaired and hosted public Q and A meetings which representatives from Heathrow attended, responded to multiple consultations and met Ministers frequently to make the case. Greg has been a member of the Government for most of the last 10 years, and in that time, no significant expansion of Heathrow Airport has taken place.
Ultimately, since Greg’s resignation from the Government five years ago in 2018, Heathrow Airport still does not have a third runway. Greg has always stood up for his constituents and he will continue to fight against Heathrow’s expansion, and against night flights.
Greg will continue to follow developments very closely.
