- Greg Hands MP hosted his regular Crime Summit in Chelsea, with Metropolitan Police Officers, local GLA member Tony Devenish and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Councillors Josh Rendall and Cem Kemahli joining him on the panel.
- Greg shared the news that the Conservative Government has successfully delivered on its flagship manifesto commitment of recruiting an extra 20,000 police officers. There are now a record number of police officers in London - we now have 36,418 police officers keeping us safe!
- The panel addressed a number of wide-ranging concerns on crime from local residents.
Greg Hands recently hosted his public Crime Summit meeting, which was held at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea on Thursday, 27 April 2023. Greg regularly hosts public Crime Summit meetings across Chelsea and Fulham, and for interested residents the next meeting will be held at a Fulham location in Autumn 2023.
Greg’s latest crime summit was well attended by local residents, and he would like to thank everyone who took the time to come along and raise important questions.
Making sure residents feel safe is a priority for Greg. That is why he continues to hold monthly meetings with the Borough Commander and hosts public Crime Summit meetings, which give all local residents the opportunity to discuss their concerns about crime directly with Greg, as well as Metropolitan Police Officers and local councillors.
Greg was joined on the panel by Superintendent Owen Renowden of Central West BCU and colleagues from the local neighbourhood police team, Tony Devenish GLA Member for West Central and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) Councillors Josh Rendall and Cem Kemahli.
Greg highlighted the fantastic news that this Conservative Government has successfully delivered on its flagship manifesto commitment of recruiting an extra 20,000 police officers. There are now a record numbers of police officers in London - we now have 36,418 police officers keeping us safe!
The Conservative Government is also introducing more funding with a £17.2 billion policing budget for 2023–2024 alongside tougher powers for the police and courts to crack down on crime. The extra officers, funding and powers will strengthen the visibility of the police, protect our community, and make our streets safer.
At the Crime Summit, many residents were reassured to hear the Kensington and Chelsea Police are increasing their focus on neighbourhood policing, which will see more officers on the streets, talking with residents, and engaging with the community to tackle crime. Superintendent Owen Renowden also outlined key priorities for the area which include focusing on robbery, theft from a motor vehicle, burglary, supercar meets, and e-scooters. This was good to hear as these are some of issues that matter most to residents.
Greg enjoys hosting public crime meetings and has done so for many years across Chelsea and Fulham, such as at Fulham Library in December 2022, Cadogan Estate Chelsea in February 2022, virtually throughout the Covid pandemic in 2021 and 2020, St Simon Zelotes Church in October 2019, Fulham Broadway Methodist Church in March 2019 and Holy Trinity Chelsea in September 2018. Greg looks forward to hosting his next crime summit later this year in Fulham and will keep residents posted on details nearer the time.
