Greg Hands MP joins local Police on Fulham walkabout
  • Greg Hands MP had a really worthwhile walkabout with Sgt. Tom Martis-Jones and PC Mark Tims from Hammersmith & Fulham Police.
  • Greg and the police officers stopped at Stamford Bridge, Fulham Broadway, Eel Brook Common, Wandsworth Bridge Road and Townmead Estate in Fulham.
  • Greg regularly hosts public Crime Summit meetings across Chelsea & Fulham, and the next meeting will be held at a Fulham location this Autumn, giving all local residents the opportunity to discuss their concerns about crime directly with Greg, as well as Metropolitan Police Officers and local councillors.

Greg Hands MP had a really worthwhile walkabout with Sgt. Tom Martis-Jones and PC Mark Tims from Hammersmith & Fulham Police.

First stop was Stamford Bridge where the Metropolitan Police Service work really well with the Club and we have been largely incident-free outside the stadium for some years now.

Next stop was Fulham Broadway, which has been a hot spot over the years for late night noise and anti-social behaviour. Greg is also aware that it has also been subject of recent resident concern around too many late night licences. Although the number of premises is down - the Elk is boarded up, as is the wine bar next door.

They then walked to Eel Brook Common, which is a beautiful Fulham park, but sometimes attracts anti-social behaviour. Nothing like what it did historically, where, in Victorian times, Britain’s last anti-enclosure riot took place here. That, at least, is the word on the street!

Onto the ever-controversial Wandsworth Bridge Road, where businesses like Il Pagliaccio Restaurant have been clobbered by H&F Council’s ill-thought through traffic scheme, and now the closure for 10 weeks of Wandsworth Bridge itself. Crime, thankfully, is not a big issue here.

Final stop was the Townmead estate, which has also had anti-social behaviour issues (and some at Imperial Wharf). The Sands End Safer Neighbourhood team do a great job around here, with PC Mark Tims. And South Fulham neighbourhood policing is led by Sgt. Tom Martis-Jones.

Greg has said a huge thanks to our local police officers and all the work they do!

Commenting, Greg Hands said:

‘’It was great to join local police officers in Fulham and show them first-hand, some of the sites in the constituency which residents have expressed concerns about.

Making sure residents feel safe is a priority for me. The Conservative Government has successfully delivered on its flagship manifesto commitment of recruiting 20,000 new police officers. We now have a record number of police officers across the country, with a record number in London as well, with an additional 3,468 police officers for the Metropolitan Police.

I regularly host public Crime Summit meetings across Chelsea & Fulham, and the next meeting will be held at a Fulham location this Autumn, giving all local residents the opportunity to discuss their concerns about crime directly with me, as well as Metropolitan Police Officers and local councillors.’’
