Last weekend, the MP for Chelsea and Fulham, Greg Hands MP, visited Aberdeen to speak at the North Sea Transition Forum and to be a guest speaker at the Scottish Conservative Conference.
The Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change opened the ‘Working Within the UK’ session with a speech on how the UK Government is delivering for Scotland through backing oil and gas, renewables and nuclear energy.
In his address to the conference, the Minister slammed the SNP, labelling them the ‘Scottish Dependency Party’, referring to the dependency the Party would have on Russian oil and gas if not for the UK Government’s North Sea Transition Deal and investment in renewable energy. The MP also visited the Remote Operations Centre belonging to Fugro, a world-leading Geo-data specialist, which collects and analyses comprehensive information about the earth and structures built upon it. Alongside this, Greg visited the Net Zero Technology Centre and gained a better understanding of how the Aberdeen centre aims to reduce emissions from the sector.
Commenting on this trip, Greg said
“It was a pleasure to visit Aberdeen and speak at the Scottish Conservative Conference. Scotland’s best interests are at the heart of the UK Government’s energy and climate change policy, with a strong commitment to renewables, nuclear energy and the North Sea oil & gas industry.
In direct contrast, the SNP form alliances with those who want to close down North Sea oil and gas forever and choose to oppose new nuclear power.”
