Last week, the MP for Chelsea and Fulham and Minister of State at the Department for International Trade, Greg Hands MP, visited Jersey for 2 days as the UK continues to establish Free Trade Agreements with countries around the world.

The MP for Chelsea and Fulham visited Jersey Dairy, Ports of Jersey, Digital Jersey and Jersey Finance to not only gain a better understanding of the island’s key industries but to discuss the ways to include Jersey and other Crown Dependencies in future UK Free Trade Agreements.

Most notably, the MP visited the famous cows at Jersey Dairy, which have been one of the island’s most successful exports, now found across the world. During his visit, the MP himself even provided a helping hand with the milking! The Jersey dairy industry has had very strong export growth, exporting to 30 countries currently. The Department for International Trade have continued to work to get more market access for Jersey’s dairy industry, most recently with South Korea.

Greg Hands MP also met with Jersey Chief Minister, John Le Fondre, and External relations Minister, Ian Gorst, to discuss the progress the Department for International Trade is making to support jobs and growth in Jersey through trade, investment, innovation and the Global Britain agenda.

Commenting on his trip, Greg Hands MP said:

“Jersey is very much part of the British family and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the island. Britain and Jersey share deep historical ties, and trade has always played a major role in our relationship.

I am committed to building on these ties and working together to ensure our trade deals support people and businesses in the island by opening up new opportunities in fast-growing markets across the globe from the Pacific to Asia and the Americas.”
