Greg Hands walked the length of the Fulham Road from Fulham Palace Road to Chelsea, meeting businesses and residents. This is a vital artery for our Chelsea & Fulham constituency and served by 14 and 414 bus routes.
First stop was the first ever UK petrol station converted by Shell entirely to Electric Charging, which Greg opened as Energy Minister in 2022. A popular facility and a useful way of drawing more electric black cabs to Fulham at a time when taxis are being clobbered by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
Next up was the super local business Bloomside Florist, 813 Fulham Road. Greg came by in 2020 just after they had re-opened after the first lockdown. Greg always supports local small businesses.
Then he was at Ta’Mini, the Lebanese bakery and kitchen which Greg has long supported, on Fulham Road, SW6. Greg is the only major party candidate who lives in Fulham or Chelsea. Local candidates understand the importance of local businesses.
Greg’s whole-length-of-Fulham-Road walkabout continued. The Health Foods shop on Fulham Road has been here for decades. Greg came to visit them as Town Ward Councillor back in 2003. Fulham Road has amazing local specialist shops and businesses - but they need a local champion.
At The Fulham Boys School where Greg is the Patron. Greg did a lot of work with the Governors and the Head in getting the school set up a decade ago - and in working with the Government to secure funding. It is such a great school - likely to be adversely impacted by Labour’s Parent Tax.
And next he popped to Metro Bank Fulham Broadway, which has hosted his constituency advice surgeries - along with their branch on King's Road, Chelsea - the last 7 years or so. The advice surgeries have helped 100s of Chelsea & Fulham people. Greg thanked Metro Bank for serving our community.
Next at the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, where Greg was honoured to speak at their D-Day 80th anniversary celebrations. Work continues on helping veterans with issues around the impending redevelopment with Chelsea FC.
Continuing along Fulham Road, Chelsea Football Club (CFC) are massive for the constituency. They are actually located in Fulham but have been the longest-standing London football club to be at their same site. Greg has always backed CFC staying here!
Continuing progress of his walkabout, Greg stopped at the boundary between Chelsea and Fulham, on Fulham Road - “Stamford Bridge.” Which reminded him to speak with The Fulham Society & The Chelsea Society about a campaign to get the 1860 boundary stone restored. It is becoming almost illegible.
Next stop on Greg’s walk the length of Fulham Road was Brompton Cemetery. There is a very active friends group here, Friends of Brompton Cemetery, which promotes visits and tours of the famous resting place, which includes the grave of Greg’s late brother Andrew (1967-2003).
Up next on Greg’s Fulham Road walk was Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. Regularly rated one of the best hospitals in the country, Greg was honoured to attend its 30th anniversary at this site last year. Greg saw their new robotic surgery equipment in May. His daughter was born here too!
Greg also engaged with local residents all along the way.
Next stop on Fulham Road was the Sloane Street Auction House. A big success, as a result of a campaign by Greg and Redcliffe Conservative Councillors Tom Bennett, Marie-Therese Rossi and Sidney Yankson to remove the garish Easy building branding. Greg highlighted how it is now flourishing and looking nice, too. Inside with Sloane Street auctioneer Dan who has made a big success of the site. Dan is voting for Greg, as a result of the action taken to support businesses on Fulham Road.
The final stop was the 414 bus stop, which Greg was hopping on back to the start of the road.
Fulham Road and King’s Road - in their full lengths - are what help define Chelsea & Fulham as one community.
Commenting, Greg Hands said:
“My journey along the length of the Fulham Road demonstrates just how brilliant our local area is from businesses to schools to hospitals.
Thanks to the businesses and local residents who took the time to catch up.
Fulham Road and King’s Road, in their full lengths, are what help define Chelsea & Fulham as one community – and what a fantastic community we have!”
