Chelsea and Fulham MP, Greg Hands, is warning his constituents that a future Labour Government would raise taxes on families and workers following admissions by the Labour leader Ed Miliband.
Last week, Ed Miliband was asked on The Andrew Marr Show, (BBC One, 11 Jan 2015) whether his spending plans mean he would have to raise taxes on hardworking families. He answered ‘Indeed, indeed.’
Mr Miliband confirmed what everybody already knew: that Labour hasn't changed, and that its plans for more spending and more borrowing would mean higher taxes for everyone.
In contrast, the Conservatives have cut income tax every year they've been in office, but Ed Miliband actually doesn't believe in cutting tax.
In an article revealed last weekend (Telegraph.co.uk, 10 Jan 2015), written while he was part of the last Labour Government under Gordon Brown, Ed Miliband actually rejected the idea of tax cuts as being ‘out of the mainstream’.
Greg Hands MP said: “The choice at the next election couldn't be clearer. Between the Conservatives, who will cut income tax for 30 million people, so you keep more of your hard-earned money; or a Labour leader who doesn't believe in tax cuts at all - and is already making plans to make families pay more.
“When people head to the ballot box in just four months time, they should remember that the last Labour Government were addicted to raising taxes, spending and borrowing, and left Britain with a record peacetime deficit, increased unemployment, and a welfare system that didn’t reward work.
“Ed Miliband’s recent comments confirm that it is the same old Labour, they have learned nothing from their past mistakes, and that he is just not up to the job of Prime Minister;
“Under Labour the deficit would go up again, just like it did last time. That will mean more borrowing, more taxes and more debt than our children could ever hope to repay. Labour have no plan to secure Britain’s future. Our country, our children and our grandchildren would be worse off under Ed Miliband’s weak leadership."
