Last week, as the Minister responsible for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, Greg visited New Mexico.
During the visit to the US state, Greg was hosted by two of the USA’s leading national laboratories, Los Alamos and Sandia. Both labs do vital work on nuclear energy, hydrogen, grid resilience and more!
Greg also met with officials from the State Government of New Mexico and his US counterpart Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk.
Commenting on his visit to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Greg commented,
“It was great to visit Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.
The UK is having a nuclear renaissance. To continue to deliver it we need greater cooperation with the USA. Nowhere epitomises UK/US nuclear cooperation better than the work being done at both Los Alamos.”
On his visit in general, Greg added,
“New Mexico is an energy powerhouse with a strong nuclear tradition. It’s now also investing heavily in new energy technologies like Hydrogen and CCUS (full name please), helping the United States make the transition away from oil and gas to renewables.
It’s been fascinating to visit such world-leading facilities across the State. My thanks also go to Cabinet Secretaries Cottrell-Propst & Kenny from the State of New Mexico for joining me in discussions covering how the UK and US can deepen our energy & climate cooperation in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.”
