Greg Hands M.P. is urging residents to support the ‘Stop the Sewer’ action day, which will be gathering responses to Thames Water’s Super Sewer consultation on Saturday 28th January. The proposals for the Carnwath Road site in Fulham have already provoked more than 500 people to complete Stop the Sewer’s questionnaire. They hope to gather 1,000 more to show Thames Water the strength of public opposition to the plans.
They are meeting for a photo call at 10am outside Sainsbury's (Sands End), and want as many Fulham residents as possible to come along and show their support for the campaign. There will be stalls at both Sainsbury’s and in Fulham Broadway from 9.30pm to 4.30pm.
Stop the Sewer is a coalition of individuals, groups and interests including: Stop them Shafting Fulham (SSF), Residents Against the Sewer (RATS), Peterborough Road and Area Residents' Association (PRARA), Friends of South Park, Fulham Society, Fulham Riverside West Partnership who represent the landowners of the site and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
There is also a last chance during the day to lobby Thames Water, who have bowed to pressure for an extra drop in session in Fulham. From 10am to 4pm, residents will have the chance to see the detailed plans and put their questions directly to Thames Water representatives at Hurlingham and Chelsea School on Peterborough Road.
Commenting, Greg Hands M.P. said: “I fully support the campaign by Stop the Sewer. They are doing a tremendous job collecting as many responses as possible to the consultation.
“If you are out in Fulham Broadway or Sands End tomorrow, please stop at one of their stalls and complete the questionnaire. Unlike the official consultation form, it’s simple to understand and it means that your voice will be heard.
“By working together, and speaking with one voice, we can make Thames Water think again.”
The consultation ends on 10 February 2012.
