Greg Hands MP has welcomed new figures showing 765 fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Chelsea and Fulham since 2010, a 40% drop. Over half of the new jobs came in the last year: since September 2013 in Chelsea and Fulham there have been 367 fewer people unemployed, a fall of 24%.  This means more people in work, with the security of a regular job and a brighter future ahead of them.

People are moving off benefits and into work across London, with over half a million (512,000) more people in work compared with at the last election.

Across Britain, this adds up to the largest annual fall in Britain’s unemployment since records began – down by 538,000 in the last year, and falling below two million for the first time since 2008.

Jobs are being created in Chelsea and Fulham in places like the Chelsea App Factory which has been designing, building and testing smartphone and table applications since the company’s creation in 2010. This fast growing company currently employs around 70 members of staff.

Greg said: “These figures are great news, confirming that 765 fewer people in Chelsea and Fulham are relying on benefits since 2010. This means a brighter, more secure future for more and more people with the security of a good job and a regular pay packet.

“Ed Miliband predicted our long term economic plan would lead to the loss of a million jobs - and now he can't understand why unemployment is falling. This has happened because of our action in Government: The Conservatives are backing small businesses and enterprise with lower jobs taxes and better infrastructure, while reforming welfare so work always pays.

“As these figures show that plan is working, delivering financial security for hardworking taxpayers and their families in Chelsea and Fulham, who can look forward to the future with greater peace of mind.”
