Dear resident,
I hope this finds you well.
According to the weekend MRP poll from Survation, I am just 1.3% ahead of Labour for the General Election on 4 July here in Chelsea & Fulham. That would be just a couple of hundred votes.
Today, Postal Votes start to arrive in people’s letterboxes in Fulham. They will arrive from Thursday in Chelsea.
According to the poll overall, Labour are on track for a 262-seat majority, with the party currently leading in 456 seats, while the Conservatives remain far behind on 72 seats.
This is all well within the margin of error, so it is effectively a dead heat in Chelsea & Fulham, and I would be the only Conservative MP anywhere in London. This would delight Sadiq Kahn, but it would not be good for democracy, and a Starmer-led government with a majority of that size could use its absolute power to govern without effective scrutiny.
As we have seen with their proposal for a new 20% tax on independent school parents, their instinct is to the Left of either Tony Blair or Gordon Brown. So, a vote for me is also a vote for an effective opposition and against too much concentration of power in Labour, as we would have a Labour Government, a Labour Mayor, a Labour Council (in Fulham) and, from 4 July, a Labour MP as well!
So, my campaign continues at pace. In recent days, I have visited Ray's Playhouse in Sands End, welcomed the new North End Road Post Office being prepared for opening, continued the campaign against the Battersea Bridge Tower, and had time to watch England’s opening win at the Euros!
If you see me out on the campaign trail, come and say hello. Even better, if you want to help out, just reply to this email.
With all good wishes,
Greg Hands
