Dear Resident,
I hope you are well.
Throughout this week, our thoughts have been with the Ukrainian people at this terrible moment in their country's history.
On Monday, I had the honour of being a guest speaker at the Polish City Club, an organisation for Polish expats living in London, and spoke about the UK’s solidarity with Ukraine. I also got to hear from a member of the Ukrainian City Club, Irina Tymczyszyn, who gave a very moving testimony about her family and friends in Ukraine currently facing the relentless bombardment from Russia.
The Prime Minister has said that nothing is off the table when it comes to the UK’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom and the desire for its people to live in peace and in a democracy.
In lockstep with allies, this week the UK has implemented the most severe and coordinated package of sanctions Russia has ever faced. This includes sanctioning over 100 companies and oligarchs at the heart of Putin’s regime and excluding many of Russia’s key banks from the SWIFT financial system. Furthermore, the UK now has more than 1,000 British troops ready to support NATO and allies in the event of a humanitarian crisis. Please click here for more detail on the UK’s response. Please be assured that the UK is using all possible means at its disposal to ensure that President Putin fails and I am following the situation very closely.
Kind regards,
