Dear Resident,
I hope you are well.
This week, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed Parliament virtually with a very moving and emotional speech. The President echoed Sir Winston Churchill’s words, vowing to fight Russian troops in the air, sea and on the streets. To view this great speech fully, please click here.
The UK continues to stand with President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine and more action has been taken this week in the fight against President Putin. This includes the new commitment to phase out Russian oil imports this year and pushing the Economic Crime Bill through the House of Commons at rapid speed to stop Russian oligarchs using the City of London for money laundering. Please see below for my comments on the Chelsea FC owner sanctions.
I would also like to mention the significance of International Women’s Day which took place this week on 8th March: A day dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of equality for women globally, this year’s theme was #BreakTheBias, referring to the inequality and bias many women around the world face in communities, workplaces and schools and colleges.
I welcome the UK Government’s continued commitment to stand up for women’s rights domestically and internationally. To see the recent work the Government Equalities Office is doing to break down barriers for women, please click here.Kind regards,
