Greg Hands played a key role in the General Election as the Conservative Party’s Deputy Chief Whip, being based at Conservative Campaign Headquarters, running Action Days, battle buses and helping orchestrate the national campaign, whilst never neglecting the local campaign in Chelsea & Fulham.
Along with other local Conservatives, Cllr Greg Smith and former Council Leader, Stephen Greenhalgh, Greg travelled the region on behalf of local Conservative candidates, often accompanied by local Chelsea resident, staunch Conservative supporter and former England footballer, Sol Campbell.
Greg assisted in the run-up to election day in successful campaigns in Hastings & Rye (Amber Rudd MP), Thanet South (Craig Mackinlay MP), Colchester (Will Quince MP), Croydon Central (Gavin Barwell MP) and unsuccessful ones in Brentford & Isleworth and Clacton, both of which nonetheless had close results. On election day itself, apart from being in Chelsea & Fulham, Greg assisted in getting out the vote with the Conservative Battle Bus, in Twickenham (Tania Mathias MP), Kingston & Surbiton (James Berry MP) and Sutton & Cheam (Paul Scully MP) – a hat-trick of victories for the Party.
Greg said: “We were the only major party except for the Greens to do any campaigning at all in Chelsea & Fulham, yet I was glad to still find time to travel the region assisting the Conservatives win some famous victories, against national figures like Vince Cable, Ed Davey and Nigel Farage. It helped make the whole election a truly remarkable experience.”
