Greg Hands MP was honoured to attend The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, 6 May 2023. As many of you will have seen, the ceremony was an extraordinary expression of Britain’s culture, traditions, and history. The spectacular parade by our armed forces was the largest in 70 years and displayed amazing precision and professionalism.
Greg started off the Coronation weekend celebrations at the Friends of Brompton Cemetery Party, where he has been a member for 20 years. There was a hearty rendition of God Save The King, and a great-looking cake.
Next stop was the Chelsea Pensioners parade on the King’s Road, and it was great to see a huge turnout. Greg spent some time on the King’s Road where a great street party was going on and saw the parade of 160 King Charles Spaniels.
Greg attended an amazing Coronation service at All Saints Fulham on Sunday morning. There was something for everyone: Zadok the Priest; sermon by Revd George Meyrick reflecting on Bishop Graham Tomlin’s works on service and obedience; Jerusalem and the National Anthem! Thank you to Vicar Penny Seabrook and the top choir.
Greg thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent Coronation street parties across Chelsea and Fulham, in Edenhurst Avenue, Napier Avenue, St Dionis Road, Harbledown & Elmstone Roads in Fulham, Park Walk, Mallord Street, Christchurch Terrace, Paradise Walk, Margaretta Terrace, the World’s End Estate, Lennox Gardens and Sydney Street in Chelsea.
There was an amazing event at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall, through the Kensington and Chelsea Forum, which brought pensioners and the disabled into the Coronation atmosphere. Greg passed on a huge thank you to Baroness Borwick, and all the Councillors who did an incredible job organising this event. A special mention has to go to the giant Chelsea Bun courtesy of Partridges located on Duke of York Square – it is one of the world’s largest Chelsea Buns!
Greg was honoured to read a lesson at Sloane Church on Sunday evening for a superb Coronation service. The service had it all: sermon from The Revd. Yaroslav Sky Walker on the role of the Coronation spoon; I Vow to Thee My Country, Jerusalem and the National Anthem.
Greg hopes that all residents had a fantastic weekend celebrating and he would like to thank everyone who got involved and organised these magnificent events!
God Save The King!
