On Monday this week I was honoured to speak at an event, hosted by developer St. George in Parliament, celebrating 25 years of Imperial Wharf.
The Imperial Wharf development is located right at the border between Chelsea and Fulham and I have been involved in this huge project for over 25 years now: First as Hammersmith & Fulham Councillor and from 2005 as the local Member of Parliament.
The transformation from the former brownfield site of Fulham Gasworks to a new living quarter right by the Thames has been truly remarkable. In my view, the creation of Imperial Wharf as a new local area has overall been a huge success: The development out-performed on the number of homes built, Imperial Park provides South Fulham with an additional local green space and connectivity for Fulham and Chelsea Harbour has been hugely improved since the opening of Imperial Wharf Station since the opening of Imperial Wharf Station in 2009, which I attended, and the extension of the station in 2021, which I presided over.
However, from time to time, Imperial Wharf residents contact me with some concerns. Recently, I met with a group of long-term residents from Townmead Road who expressed their desire for somewhere for local youngsters to go, like youth clubs, a basketball court or boxing club and bigger playgrounds for children of all ages. I will continue to work with residents to find solutions here.
