Greg Hands was re-elected to a third term as MP for Chelsea & Fulham on Thursday, with an increased share of the vote. Having won the seat from Labour in 2005 (as Hammersmith & Fulham), Greg has increased the Conservative vote share at all three elections, in 2005, 2010 and 2015.
The result on Thursday was as follows:
Greg Hands (Conservative) - 25,322
Labour - 9,300
LibDem - 2,091
UKIP - 2,039
Green - 1,474
Greg increased the Conservative vote share from an already sizeable 45% in 2005, to 60% in 2010, to 63% in 2015, representing a positive and repeated endorsement for his local approach.
Speaking on election night, Greg thanked the electors of Chelsea & Fulham for supporting him, and gained national coverage for being one of the first Conservatives on the night to declare victory overall, and calling for “soul-searching by Labour, particularly in Hammersmith & Fulham Labour, one of the first places to back Ed Miliband for Leader” and called on Labour to “abandon the politics of envy”.
Greg added that he was “delighted that David Cameron had secured a second term” and that the local area had avoided “Labour’s politics of envy, with their taxes on the family home, more income tax and more taxes on business which would destroy jobs”.
