- Update 10 July 2024 - Statement from Rt Hon Greg Hands, former Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham
Dear Chelsea & Fulham resident,
You will be aware that the General Election took place on Thursday 4 July.
Unfortunately, I was not re-elected as Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham.
Please see visit here for the result in full. I knew it was neck and neck in our constituency, and the results show just that, with only 152 votes between the Labour candidate and myself.
I congratulate my successor and wish him good luck in this role.
Most importantly, I would like to thank you and the fellow constituents of Chelsea & Fulham.
Thank you for your inspiration and the opportunity you gave me to serve as Member of Parliament for 19 years.
Being your Member of Parliament has been the greatest honour.
I have also had the honour to serve our country as a Government Minister for over 11 years.
At this point, I would also like to thank my family and many members of ‘Team Hands’ for their dedication in supporting me in this work.
In terms of my future, I am looking forward to a more relaxed summer and will think about plans for the future.
I will continue to live in Chelsea & Fulham, and I am sure I will see you around.
With best wishes for the future,
Greg Hands
Your Member of Parliament, 2005-2024 and Government Minister for most of 2010-2024
- Update Ends -
When I was re-elected Member of Parliament for Chelsea and Fulham in December 2019, I could not have imagined the turbulent times that lay ahead.
The challenges we have faced, as a country and around the world, have been unprecedented. As we recover from the economic impact of the pandemic, we are also met with a global energy crisis, driven by Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine.
It has been an honour and a privilege for me as the MP to be at the heart of all of this, as Minister for Trade Policy and formerly Minister for Energy and Climate Change and Chairman of the Conservative Party. I am fully aware of the challenges we face as a country and the Government under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is focused on delivering on its 5 priorities: Halving inflation, growing the economy, reducing debt, cutting NHS waiting lists and stopping the boats.
Locally, we are threatened by Mayor Khan and Labour’s traffic chaos. We have averted most of Mayor Khan’s threats to totally axe or reduce many of our long-standing, well-used local bus routes, like the iconic Number 11 bus. Continued closure of local bridges and ill-planned traffic schemes cause gridlock on our roads and greater air pollution for residents.
I am, however, also aware of the worries and challenges of residents. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have received over 54,000 enquiries from local residents and businesses.
I am here to help Chelsea and Fulham residents, regardless of their political views. If you’d like my help or support, please get in touch.
