This week, Greg met with the staff from the Fulham Job Centre to discuss the fantastic work they are doing in supporting the community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Unfortunately, unemployment has sharply increased this year in Chelsea and Fulham, albeit from a low level. With 13 job centres across West London, the team at the Fulham Job Centre are working hard to support residents, reporting a 135% increase in Universal Credit claimants since March.
Locally, 17,500 individuals are in touch with the Fulham Job Centre and the team are focusing on the labour market to support more people into jobs. The team outlined a range of support they are offering to individuals and welcomed the significant support put in place by the Government throughout the course of the coronavirus pandemic, such as the Kickstart Scheme and the discretionary fund.
Greg also welcomed the news of additional support schemes such as the Skills to Screen initiative recently announced in partnership with Pinewood Studios which is looking to support local jobseekers previously employed in the aviation industry at Heathrow airport transfer their skills into the film industries.
