This week, the MP for Chelsea and Fulham and Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, Greg Hands MP, visited Salford to open the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy new site and visit businesses in the North West region.
During the visit, Greg Hands MP, visited the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy new site in Salford to open the offices, which will have over 400 staff located there by 2025. The North West is playing a vital part in the Department’s Net Zero Revolution. The new site will bring hundreds of top civil servant jobs from the capital and will drawn on the excellent local workforce in the region to develop and deliver the Government’s plans to combat climate change and drive clean growth.
The MP for Chelsea and Fulham also met Andy Carter, MP for Warrington South, to visit the HyNet North West carbon capture cluster. HyNet will be at the forefront of developing this technology as outlined in the Government’s Net Zero Strategy. The Government is backing the industry with £1 billion support.
While in the North West, Greg Hands MP also visited Viridor UK’s energy from waste plant in Runcorn. Waste is one of the UK’s top 10 sectors for carbon emissions. Carbon capture and storage is a critical technology to get it to net zero. The plant is part of the HyNet North West cluster going forward for Track-1.
