Last week, the MP for Chelsea and Fulham and Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, Greg Hands MP, opened Shell's electric vehicle (EV) charging hub on Fulham Road, at the junction of Landridge Road, SW6.

Converted from a traditional service station, this new EV station is Shell's first in Europe.

Greg has met with Shell many times since the initial proposal to help move the plans forward, and returned last week to cut the ribbon with the head of Shell UK.

The Fulham charging hub features ultra-rapid 175kW charge points that run on 100% certified renewable electricity. The nine high-powered charging points can charge most EVs from 0 to 80% in around ten minutes, three times faster than 50kW rapid chargers.

The hub also features a sustainable design with solar panels built into the roof that provide around a quarter of the electricity the site needs.

The shop front double glazing with highly insulating properties reduces energy use for both cooling in the summer and heating in winter whilst the hub’s canopy is constructed from sheets of timber glued together, which use much less energy to produce and transport than steel.

Commenting, Greg Hands MP said:

“It was a pleasure to open Shell’s first ever EV station in Europe on Fulham Road, placing our local area at the heart of the EV revolution. The use of electric vehicles will play an important role as the UK continues to transition away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy. This local hub fits with the Government’s long-term objectives to drive clean growth and achieve net zero by 2050, and is the first of many more to come in the UK.”
