Greg Hands has welcomed Transport for London’s (TfL) decision to withdraw its planning application to redevelop the former Parsons Green Depot.
As the consultation period for TfL’s planning application to redevelop the Former Parsons Green Depot was coming to an end, Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, Greg Hands, was pleased to hear that the application had been withdrawn. Greg had made a submission to H&F Council on the proposals.
Subsequently, on Friday, 26 February, Greg Hands held a meeting with TfL’s Director of Commercial Development, Mr Graeme Craig, to discuss the site and TfL’s reasons for withdrawing the planning application. Mr Craig acknowledged that local residents had raised a number of concerns about the proposals, ranging from the project’s scale and height, to problems associated with access, and the project’s impact on existing tenants. TfL expects to make its new application in late 2016, with a reduced maximum height, protection for tenants, and a reconsideration of the significant concerns around match-day access through the site from Parsons Green to Fulham Broadway.
Speaking after the meeting, Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, Greg Hands, said: “I would like to thank Transport for London for making the right decision to withdraw their planning application to redevelop the former Parsons Green Depot in the face of substantial local opposition and justified concerns. However, it should be noted that, quite rightly, the Depot remains a priority for redevelopment, providing much-needed new homes and potential employment opportunities.
“Nevertheless, it is reassuring to know that TfL will respond to these concerns and meet local aspirations for the site when they make any future planning application for the site.”
