Dear Resident,
I hope you are well.
As we approach the end of Easter recess in Parliament, President Putin and the Russian Government continue to cause death and destruction in Ukraine. Rather than retreating, Russian troops are regrouping, leaving the area around Kyiv only to push harder in the Donbas region in Ukraine.
There is now clear evidence of terrible atrocities committed by Russian forces in Irpin and Bucha including butchery, rape and torture. It is now more important than ever before that the West does all it can to starve Putin’s war machine.
The Government has therefore announced a ratcheting up of UK sanctions on Russia. These include a full asset freeze on the largest Russian bank and an end to all new UK outward investment into Russia, an end to all imports of Russian coal and oil by the end of 2022 and further action against oligarchs and key strategic industries. The UK is also delivering on its plan by strengthening Ukraine’s defence with next-generation anti-tank weapons, Javelin missiles and Starstreak anti-aircraft systems. For more information on the sanctions please click here.At this significant moment, we must ensure that Ukraine prevails, securing a safer and more peaceful world.
Wishing you all a very happy Easter weekend!
Kind regards,
