Last week, the Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, Greg Hands MP, attended the well-known Ludwig-Erhard-Summit at Tegernsee, Germany.
The event was conducted wholly in German, and Greg met the Party Leaders of the three largest parties, Friedrich Merz (CDU), Lars Klingbeil (SPD) and Ricarda Lang (Greens). The Minister also met with the President of the Bavarian Parliament, Ilse Aigner.
The MP discussed the situation in Ukraine, energy security as well as the transition to renewables.

Greg also visited Katowice, Poland, to attend the 14th European Economic Congress. He met with Poland’s Europe Minister to discuss phasing out Russian energy imports, listened to the speech by the Polish PM Morawiecki on the Ukraine situation and participated in a panel discussion where he highlighted the UK’s plans to stop Russian oil imports by the end of the year. The MP spoke about how money going to Moscow needs to be minimised and delivery of defensive weaponry to Ukraine scaled up.
Commenting on his trips, Greg Hands MP said:
“The UK has a special and enduring economic partnership with both Germany and Poland and it was a pleasure to meet policymakers from both countries.
The UK will continue to cooperate and collaborate with both countries in our fight against Russian aggression and support for Ukraine as well as in other areas such as the transition away from fossil fuels and investment in clean growth and renewable energy.”
