These covered his work as the Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham as well as his Ministerial work as Minister for Trade Policy and Minister for London.
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the local Councillors in Chelsea and Fulham who have been elected or re-elected in last week’s local elections as well as all the candidates, who put in months of hard work in the lead-up to the election.
It’s been a busy week for me – at home and abroad. At the end of last week, I attended the prestigious Ludwig-Erhard-Summit in Bavaria. Following interesting and constructive discussions on energy security, the economy as well as the situation in Ukraine, I travelled on to Katowice in Poland.
We are now just under 2 weeks away from the local elections taking place in both Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea. Earlier this week, I voted by post for the Conservatives and would like to strongly encourage Chelsea & Fulham residents to do the same on Thursday 5th May when the elections take place.
I hope you are well. As we approach the end of Easter recess in Parliament, President Putin and the Russian Government continue to cause death and destruction in Ukraine. Rather than retreating, Russian troops are regrouping, leaving the area around Kyiv only to push harder in the Donbas region in Ukraine.
Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 last Saturday evening, resulting in me working from home for the majority of this week and being unable to attend the House of Commons or face-to-face meetings and events.
I hope this finds you well. I would firstly like to welcome the news that the special licence granted to Chelsea FC has been amended to allow Chelsea fans to purchase tickets for Premier League away matches, cup games (including the upcoming FA cup and Champions League fixtures) and women’s fixtures.
As the crisis in Ukraine continues to cause devastation, the courage that the Ukrainian people have shown during this period has been truly remarkable. The United Kingdom has a proud history of helping others in need and I would therefore like to welcome the launch of the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme, announced this week.
This week, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed Parliament virtually with a very moving and emotional speech. The President echoed Sir Winston Churchill’s words, vowing to fight Russian troops in the air, sea and on the streets. To view this great speech fully, please click here.
